Disclosure Guide Training

Dr. Janice Caudill and Dan Drake will be training professionals on how to effectively facilitate a Full Disclosure after sexual betrayal.

This course is created as a partner betrayal trauma sensitive, polyvagal-informed, and relationship-nurturing approach to restoring truth. The training can be a stand-alone training or can be used toward becoming a Certified Clinical Disclosure Guide or Certified Disclosure Guide Coach for those who meet the criteria

The training will include a step-by-step guide for deciding if the disclosure is appropriate, preparing both the partner and the disclosure in mind, body, and spirit, preparing a written disclosure document, and facilitating the actual process.

  • Understand benefits, risks, and reasons for disclosure, as well as what the disclosure process entails. 
  • Gain a general view of the disclosure process from beginning to end as a trauma-informed component of recovery healing 
  • Learn main tasks involved in partner early preparation and safety development.  
  • Identify how to help a partner prepare vetted questions for the disclosure 
  • Learn main tasks involved in Discloser early preparation and stress/shame management.  
  • Learn how to develop an appropriate disclosure document 
  • Develop an understanding of the purpose of using a polygraph in the disclosure process 
  • Understand differences in preparing clients pre- vs. post-polygraph 
  • Preparing proactive partner coping plans for potential consequences 
  • Understand how to set realistic expectations and safety boundaries during the ceremony. 
  • Learn proper manners for disclosure ceremony and preparation for partner boundaries 
  • Navigate the post-disclosure conjoint processing of emotions and boundaries. 
  • Develop an aftercare plan.  
  • Learn ethical business practices, logistical considerations, and practice management for disclosures.
  • Identifying 3 different types of disclosures depending on where a couple is on the continuum 
  • List 3 benefits and 3 risks for the ethical consideration of moving forward with a disclosure
  • Differentiate between disclosure behavioral preparation vs. disclosure content preparation for Discloser and Partner 
  • Identify and dispel at least 3 disclosure myths
  • Be able to list at least 3 grounding/emotional regulation tools  
  • Differentiate between partner “heart” questions vs “content” questions 
  • Identify the 10 steps for creating disclosure document  
  • List at least 3 anxiety/flight management tools  
  • Describe 3 ethical considerations surrounding the use of the polygraph 
  • Identify 2 main differences between pre-disclosure polygraphs and post-disclosure polygraphs 
  • Identify at least 3 factors about the setting that the Partner can control or plan for in advance  
  • List at least 3 points of etiquette for Disclosers to perform during ceremony  
  • Identify at least 1 reason why Disclosers need to be aware of Partner’s boundaries for ceremony 
  • List at least 3 tools to use for defining boundaries after disclosure ceremony 
  • Identify at least 3 clinical considerations for short-term after-care planning 
  • List at least 3 logistical considerations for disclosures
